Head Massage - Basic and Advanced Techniques

Imagine
Next we come to work the area of the jaw; this can be incredibly tender so be aware of the pressure that you are using—you need to ensure that you are not pressing the cheek into the teeth. Place your middle three fingers together and very gently make circles across the cheeks from the corner of the lips and moving outward toward the jaw; repeat this two or three times. You may become aware of an increase in tension as you get toward the jaw and your clients may complain that it becomes very tender around this area; this may be because they have been gritting or grinding their teeth. Place the index finger of each hand at the center of the jawline on the very tip of the chin. Use your thumbs on the very edge of the chin underneath but do not apply any pressure with your thumbs; there are lots of glands under the chin and you need to avoid pressing on these—the use of the thumb is just to keep the finger at the top steady. Using the same action as you did on the centerline of the...

It does not matter which toe you start with, but work systematically so that you work each toe in turn. Hold the end of the toe and gently roll the tip of the toe between your fingers; avoid putting pressure onto the nail bed. Work up each toe following the lines in the illustration. There are two key movements that you can use. By placing your fingers on opposite sides of the toe you can either gently squeeze, holding your pressure for around 5 seconds and then releasing it, or you can roll the toe in small movements between your fingers, applying pressure as you do. Mobile massage London therapists use special tables. As you press or roll over these areas with your fingers, you may become aware of areas that are more resistant than others and, while this can be hard to feel in the toes, these are the areas that you need to work; even if you cannot feel anything specific, just massage this area with the gentle pressing or squeezing and you will begin to release any residual ...

Massage Tips – Water, Rest and Hygiene

Imagine
After a massage treatment it is important to encourage your client to drink lots of water. This supports the body in its natural process of eliminating toxins; if someone gets a headache after massage they should be encouraged to drink water. Massage will help flush out both natural and chemical toxins from the body, but this process must be accompanied by hydration to allow the body to do its job. If clients’ urine is very dark after a treatment they again should be encouraged to drink plenty of water to assist the process of healing. Many London home massage therapists are aware of this. In busy lives it is tempting to squeeze a massage in when there is a small gap in a schedule; however, your clients will get the most out of a massage if they are able to rest after the treatment. Specifically, if clients are going to drive after a treatment and are in a deep state of relaxation they need to be given time to sit and sip water and gently “come round,” rather than dashing out sli...

Eastern Medical Massage Therapy Intro

Imagine
Eastern massage styles have been a part of everyday life for thousands of years, passing down the generations, people sometimes learning from each other at the parent’s knee, and these were seen as an important and integral part of health care. Some London home massage therapists know this type of massage. In China we have the first documented descriptions of massage, dating back around 5000 years to 3000 years BCE (before the Common Era). Chinese Taoist priests practiced “qigong,” a meditative movement revealing and cultivating the vital life force. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is based on the principle that every illness, ailment, or discomfort in the body is due to an imbalance of “qi,” or “ch’i.” Records in India also date back to at least 5000 years ago, and the unique form of medicine known as Ayurveda (the “art of living”), which, amongst other things, describes massage and herbal treatment for various conditions. 3000 years ago, around 1000 BCE, Japanese monks b...
